Real-life sisters and former Webe Web stars Marie, Sherri,
and Hope had some ups and downs in 2007, but they've been brought together again by their
mother, the woman known as ModelMom, under the Southern Glamour Girls
umbrella. Each girl has her own individual members section, and the website is quickly
growing. In January 2008, Southern Glamour Girls released their first DVD, starring
Sherri. This review will most likely upset some folks (my reviews always do), but it's
what I think and I hope it helps you decide on whether you want to make a purchase. |
Southern Glamour Girls: Sherri Vol. 1
In her previous DVD releases (which I believe are no longer available),
Sherri never seemed intimidated by the camera being on. In fact, it almost seemed as if
she were "showing off" for everyone, being very vocal and animated while she
modeled, chose clothes, or gave a tour of her backyard. However, in the Southern Glamour
Girls DVD, we see a more subdued and relaxed Sherri (even yawning a couple of times during
her shoots)... it seems her current photographer, ModelMom, doesn't put up with any
nonsense! And while it IS important to respect your mom, I was a little disappointed that
there was very little talking on this DVD. Perhaps I was spoiled by the last Sherri DVD
from her old site, which was a very candid "self-portrait" shot by Sherri
herself, talking to the camera, picking out clothes, eating lunch, and shopping. You won't
find any of that on THIS video. |

Sherri's about to take us for a wild ride. |

Duet with guest model & big sister Marie. |
What this DVD does feature, though, is Sherri
being the consummate professional. It opens with two different photoshoots, moves into a
scene of Sherri dancing in a midriff-baring top, a singing duet with Sherri and her sister
Marie, another photoshoot, a candid scene of Sherri practicing her driving (narrated by
ModelMom herself), one more photoshoot, another karaoke scene, and finally one last
photoshoot.
The only real glimpses we get to see of Sherri being herself are the singing scene
with Marie, and the driving scene... although the dancing scene is also fun. Everything
else is Sherri getting down to business and doing her job... which she does well. In fact,
she does it a little TOO well! I would have loved to have seen some outtakes, or some
chatter between her and ModelMom. However, Sherri is a seasoned pro, and knows what to do
without much instruction.

The DVD is a definite
improvement over most of the 2007 releases from Sherri... you can tell that some actual
effort went into producing this feature, as the scenes are edited together with nice
transitions, and they didn't just stick a camera on a tripod as an afterthought. In fact,
during the scenes of the photoshoots, someone actually zoomed in and panned up and down,
which is great! After all, what does sticking a camera on a tripod add? I could just put
the pictures from my membership on a slideshow, and play my own music CD. ;) However, the
zooming and panning this time were appreciated, and the only criticism I have is that a
little more talking from Sherri would have made it even better. The karaoke scenes feature
Sherri singing into a hairbrush (yes, a hairbrush!), and the driving segment, clearly the
best part in my opinion, was shot surprisingly well considering ModelMom was holding a
video camera in a moving vehicle. Overall, I believe this offering is a step in the right
direction.

It wouldn't be a Sherri DVD without a set in her
underwear. |

Sherri sings along with Hannah Montana. |
The DVD is reasonably priced at $34.95, a
welcome reduction from the $49.95 DVDs at her old site. It comes in at about 50 minutes
running time. There is no real menu on the DVD... I popped it in my DVD
player, and it started playing immediately. There also don't appear to be any actual
chapter breaks on the disc... which means if you want to see the driving scene, you have
to scan through the whole DVD and find it. It came in a thin, black DVD case with a
beautiful photo insert on the cover. However, the DVD disc itself just had "Sherri
Model Volume 1" written on it in Sharpie. Personally, I would have perferred that
they not bother with the DVD case, and focus more on a color label for the disc. The DVD
was discreetly mailed in a yellow envelope with "Barbara's Photography" as the
return address. According to the postmark, it took four days to arrive from SC (and I'm on
the west coast), but your actual shipping time may vary. |
|
The bottom line: I think I sounded more negative about this disc
than I intended. There have been so many previous Sherri DVDs that I figured they'd have
gotten all of the bugs worked out. But they are presenting us with something new
and fresh, and it's a valid effort to give us our money's worth. The price is right, and
if you can't resist Sherri singing, then I recommend this DVD. If you're looking for
thongs, then don't bother... this is a different era for her. But if you're just a Sherri
fan, then you will definitely want to add this one to your collection.
